Georgetown County Veterans Memorial, Georgetown, South Carolina

About

A Memorial for Georgetown County

Honoring those from Georgetown County who fought and died in America’s wars, and recognizing all who served.

Our purpose

The Georgetown County Veterans Memorial honors the Americans from Georgetown County who fought and died in America’s wars, and recognizes everyone who has served. Granite panels bear the names of Georgetown County service members who gave their lives, alongside panels describing how our nation’s wars touched this community.

History

The Memorial was a joint effort of Georgetown’s American Legion Post 114 and VFW Post 6444. Ground was broken in 2014 at 715 Church Street, and the Memorial wall was unveiled in December 2016, alongside that year’s Wreaths Across America ceremony.

Since then, the Memorial has been a gathering place for Georgetown’s observances of Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Wreaths Across America.

The Memorial

  • The granite wall carries the names of Georgetown County’s fallen.
  • The flags include the flag of the United States and the flags of the armed services.
  • After dark, lights set into the Memorial shine up onto the flags.
